Silo kick

In October when
canola competes
with young wheat

for Best in Show
white-faced boys
with Scottish names

compete with silos
that look like giant
clay pipes,  Mirrool

Kicking footballs
over silos’ mouths
sometimes the silos
win        swallowing
the ball whole

(Mirrool, a small town in NSW named after Wiradjuri word for clay pipe.)
